debate
Debate is a sport that encourages language expression. It is a process of understanding the pros and cons of a thing and cultivating one's dialectical thinking ability. Golden Microphone hopes that students can use debate activities at the early stage to look at the things around them and the world in a critical way, learn to use certain methods to express their own opinions, refute the other party's opinions, and know how to listen to and respect opposing opinions while insisting on their own opinions. In the process of continuous practice, they can develop their oral language skills, independent thinking skills, and critical thinking skills.
In Singapore, debate is not only an activity to exercise language and thinking, but also one of the comprehensive abilities that many schools value. Singapore's "Direct School Admission" (DSA) allows students to enter secondary schools and junior colleges through their specialties other than academics. Debate, as a representative language project, has been listed as one of the DSA admission projects for many secondary schools and junior colleges. In other words, if students show outstanding ability in debate, they will have the opportunity to apply for admission to their favorite school through DSA. Through systematic debate training, children not only improve their language expression and logical thinking, but also open up more possibilities for future studies. Golden Microphone hopes to help potential children go further on the road of debate through professional courses and training, and even become the door to open up future opportunities for them.
Organizational skills
In debate, students need to organize arguments logically to convince others, which helps improve their structured thinking and writing skills.
Self-confidence
Debate provides me with an equal opportunity to express my ideas. In class, training, and competition, the continuous recognition and encouragement from coaches, referees, and teammates slowly builds my confidence.
Communication skills
Debating requires students to express their views clearly and logically, and to practice verbal and non-verbal communication skills, which helps to improve confidence and communication skills.
Wording & Persuasiveness
Debate is a persuasive sport. Good rhetoric is also an essential skill for students and adults to become team leaders. Exercising critical thinking can increase creativity and may improve IQ.
Teamwork
Even the best debaters cannot achieve their best results without building a good relationship with their teammates. When students build cooperation with their partners, they can play the game in harmony without even verbal communication.
Expand your knowledge
Debate topics cover various fields such as society, culture, and technology. Students need to read and research extensively, which will help broaden their horizons and increase their knowledge reserves.
