Children’s Original Theatrical Showcase in Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Nation-Building

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Singapore, the Golden Microphone Language Center will present the "Children’s Original Theatrical Showcase in Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Nation-Building" at Chui Huay Lim Club on September 12th at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM. The four original works featured are the dance drama "Sister Islands," the poetry recital "Chinatown," and the Yangzhou operas "Fire and Gold" and "Forest Adventure." We sincerely invite you to visit and learn more.
The short dance drama "Sister Islands" is a cross-cultural dance drama based on long-standing Malay folk tales in Singapore. It was composed by young composer Wang Chenwei and features audio accompaniment from the Asian Cultural Symphony. The children's musical "The Story of Fort Canning Hill" spans three significant years: 1959, 1981, and 2025. It tells the story of the decades-long friendship between a group of former Singaporean schoolmates and their connection to the National Theatre and Fort Canning Hill, a national cultural landmark. The poetry recital "Chinatown" and the Yangju opera skit "Fire and Gold" will be featured, as well as "Jungle Adventure," based on the Indian epic "Ramayana," which promotes justice and condemns greed.
This annual performance by the Golden Microphone Language Center, established in 2009, aims to showcase the artistic achievements of children learning various performing arts disciplines. In recent years, participants have been invited by organizations such as the Asian Civilizations Center, the Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, the Fujian Association, the Fuqing Association, and the Chinese Studies Society to perform at various community events, earning recognition from both organizers and audiences.
