Debate

Debate

Debate encourages students to think critically, communicate effectively, and evaluate issues from different perspectives. At Golden Microphone, students learn to present their ideas clearly, support their arguments with reasoning, and respond thoughtfully to opposing viewpoints while respecting different opinions. Through regular debate practice, students develop confidence in public speaking, strengthen their communication skills, and enhance their independent, logical, and critical thinking abilities.

In Singapore, debate is increasingly valued not only as a platform for developing communication and critical thinking skills, but also as a recognised pathway under the Direct School Admission (DSA) scheme. Students who demonstrate outstanding debate abilities may have the opportunity to gain admission to their preferred secondary schools or junior colleges through their talents and achievements. Through systematic debate training, Golden Microphone equips students with strong public speaking, logical reasoning, and critical thinking skills, helping them unlock future educational opportunities while developing confidence and leadership.

Organisational Skills

Debate helps students organise their arguments logically and present them persuasively, strengthening both their structured thinking and writing skills.

Self-Confidence

Debate gives students the opportunity to express their thoughts and opinions. Through regular training and competition, positive feedback and support from coaches, judges, and peers gradually strengthen their self-confidence.

Communication Skills

Debate encourages students to express their ideas in a clear and persuasive manner while refining their verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Wording & Persuasiveness

Debate develops persuasive communication skills. It also strengthens critical thinking, encourages creativity, and enhances problem-solving abilities.

Teamwork

Even the best debaters cannot achieve their best results without building a good relationship with their teammates. When students build cooperation with their partners, they can play the game in harmony without even verbal communication.

Expand Your Knowledge

Debate exposes students to diverse topics across society, culture, technology, and other fields. The process of researching and exploring these issues helps expand and enrich their knowledge base.
